Barielle Nail Art!

Last week I showed you the Barielle Sweet Treats Collection, and today I have some nail art that I did using one of the polishes! I used Green Apple Chew for the base of this mani.

After I applied the polish, I began to do a process similar to water marble to get the effect you see on the nail.  I dripped black polish into a cup of water, and spritzed it with a bottle of hand sanitizer to make dots similar to the OPI Black Spotted that was released in Europe. What actually happened was very cool, and I am quite pleased with the results.It reminds me of lightening! My favorite nail is my ring finger.

New Year's Mani

 Today's Mani is my attempt at Nail Foil. I purchased foil a while back, and while I like the way it looks when you first apply it, i hate how crinkly it gets with topcoat. :(

To create this mani I used 1 coat of Wet N Wild Black Creme as the base, followed by the foil glue, then the foil Roman Marble from dollarnailart.com, then 2 coats of topcoat, which still didn't even out the foil. This doesn't look terrible, but it would look better if it weren't crinkled.

I recently stumbled upon this site and I plan to try this if I can find it at hobby lobby.  It looks like it might be the answer.

Nubbin Nail Art: In the Clouds on a Safari

Nail Art on my nubbins! I recently completed my On Safari Collection, and I am super happy with them all! In this quick mani I used all On Safari Colors. The base is Adventure Red-y, followed by Man Hunt, and then Exotic Encounters and Kalahari Kiss with the dotting tool! I followed up with Hong Kong Girl Topcoat.

China Glaze On Safari Nail Art

Nail Art!! I decided to do some simple nail art using the China Glaze On Safari polishes I own.  I only own three, but I think I will be getting more eventually, the ones I own are just so gorgeous!

The style of this post is going to be showing the steps I used to get to the final nail art product:

 To get these nails I didn't use any nail art tools, I only used the polish brush that came in the bottle, and a steady hand.

Up first is the base I used of China Glaze Manhunt. I am obsessed with blues like this one!  This is two coats of Manhunt, and it covered perfectly.  One coat was sheer, but two coats covered all the way. I love the jelly-like look of this polish. It just looks so squishy!

Next I added a stripe down the middle of China Glaze Exotic Encounters.  I have heard rumors that this polish stains when used on its own, but I haven't applied it as an entire base of polish, so I can not attest to that.  It is a nice teal creme.

Finally I added dots down the middle stripe, with China Glaze I'm Not Lion.  Gold glitter!  In the bottle you can see the awesome holo glitter.

Simple nail art, yet still beautiful at the same time.

BFF Challenge: Book Cover

Book nail art! Today's theme was inspired by a book. And obviously I chose the Hunger Games! I think these turned out really well, and I am really happy with the result.

The base is Wet N Wild Black Creme.  The gold for the mocking jay is Orly Glitz, with accent of Kleancolor Metallic Mango.  Silver is China Glaze Jitterbug. I did all of this nail art with a set of nail art brushes.  And as always I finished off with a coat of HK Girl Topcoat.

 Ahhhh stripes.  I love stripes. And these stripes are awesome!

I started with a base of 2 coats of Spoiled I Only Eat Salads, followed by striping tape and painting with Essie No More Film.  I think that the color combination is really great together, and the stripes really are a great accent.

I have to say that the green, Spoiled - I Only Eat Salads, Stained my nails SO BAD! My nails were green after I took the polish off, which just makes me remember to put on a base coat now, and to never forget before I use a green or blue again.

Fishtail Nails

Pretty pretty blues.  I got nail mail yesterday from Copious, and decided to give these fishtail nails a try from Chalkboard Nails.  There is also a tutorial on her page as well.

The base of this mani is OPI Dating a Royal which is the polish I got yesterday.  The next layer is Color Club Lumin-escent followed by Jessica Cosmetics Movie Premier. These are just freehanded in a curved chevron pattern.

Neon Swatch Wheel!

So if you have been following me on instagram(I'm Caitlinspolish if you want to follow me. :)), you got a sneak peek of this awesome swatch wheel I have been working on the past two days.  You can kind of see my train of thought for the wheel with my photos leading up to it. lol. 

Lets start with the inspiration post.  I had on some neon shorts from the walk my mom and I did yesterday morning, and my sister had some highlighters and pencils in the door of the car, and I snapped a picture and posted it...

Then the instagram post of my haul from Sally's and Walgreens that day.  I bought my first swatch wheels for nail art at Sallys and I got the 3 neon Sinful Colors from Walgreens.  I am really loving these neons, and for $2 you can't beat them,  they were opaque in 2 coats.

Now onto the swatch wheel. I absolutely <3 this swatch wheel.   I used the 3 neon Sinful Colors Neon Melon, Summer Peach, and Pink.  I also used Acrylic paint, and some Wet N Wild Black Creme for the ones that I used striping tape on. 

All of them are freehand. I am pretty proud of these, I have to say.

The names of the colors are Neon Melon, Summer Peach, and Pink, and they were all from the Sinful Colors Display.  I managed to snap a picture of the display before I left, in case you are curious.

Cherry Blossoms

I was sitting in my little polish area painting my nails with the Color Club polishes I found at Burlington Coat Factory(the Color Club Blossoming set!) and I really wanted to do some cherry blossoms.  the colors just screamed cherry blossoms to me. lol So here they are!

The base is Color Club Hydrangea Kiss, from the blossoming collection, the brown is China Glaze Mahogany Magic, the pink is Color Club Sugar Sheer, and the black accents are acrylic paint.  I used one of my nail art brushes for the stems and dotting tools for the flowers.

Stripes Revisited

Before I took off the previous striped mani, I wanted to see what else i could do with it, so I went back to the striping tape.  This is what came from it, and I kind of like it even better than the original.

The under polishes are stated in this post, and I just took more striping tape and went the opposite direction and painted with Wet N Wild Black Creme over it.

MIlitary Jacket

One of my favorite styles of clothing is Military jacket.  anything that has buttons on the front I am in love with. I pulled out my striping tape and thought about this mani with it.

I used China Glaze Westside Warrior as the base, then used striping for the lines, and Barielle Gelt Me to the Party for the buttons on the sides.

I like this mani alot. :)

RuPaul's Drag Race

@RuPaulsDragRace Season Finale was on last night, and I decided to do some RuPaul Nails!

Shoutout to Sharon Needles who won. You rock girl! 

RuPaul is THE authority of drag, and is such an amazing person. 

I couldn't help but give her big hair. ;)

Freehand Roses

 For today's nails I did a freehand Roses. I think these turned out very well.  

I used Zoya Skylar as the base.  Then I used Zoya Bevin for the leaves.  I used Color Club Sugar Sheer for the base of the flowers and then I used Barielle Cosmic Kiss for the accent on the flowers. 

I really like these. They only took about 20 minutes to do.   :)

Fish Egg Manicure

The Caviar Mani.  This has been around since Fashion Week of 2011 (Check the date of this link if you would like. or this one too)  And now Ciate is trying to claim the idea of "Caviar" nails/Manicure as their own.  This really bothers me, because it was not their idea, and now they are going to make money off of it.  They have even sent Cease and Desist letters to bloggers who show how to recreate the mani for cheaper than their $25 price tag.  There is alot of talk about this in the nail community, and I don't think that sending cease and desist letters to bloggers is really going to help their reputation. I know I certainly will not buy from them, even though now they will be sold at Sephora.  If you want to know more there are many, many bloggers talking about it recently, so if you just search for ciate caviar manicure cease and desist, plenty of blogs will come up.

Also, the price it cost me to do this manicure?  approximately 12 cents.  Yes. 12 CENTS. I will share more on that later.

The blue color is Zoya Skylar. The beads are from the Dollar tree!

OK, here is the good part.  The price of my manicure.  I got these adorable mini bottles of glitter and random things at the Dollar Tree.  The mini bottles were packaged together in sets of 8 for $1, which is why this cost me .12 cents. At the dollar tree they had a package of mini seed beads which i used for this manicure, and it had 8 different colors.  They also had misc. glitter, and shape glitter, and bar glitter, and crushed shells.  they are just enough to do one day's nail art, and I think they are a good deal because I don't really use glitter/seed beads that often anyway. And when I saw them I couldn't pass them up!  .12 cent or $25 for a temporary manicure? I will go with my dollar tree nail art. :)

Charlie the Unicorn!

 I am doing this nail art as a submission to Neverland Nail Blog's Nail art contest, which is titled "Do you believe in Magic?" and of course I had to do Unicorns! and how awesome is this nail art??

The unicorns are freehand.  The base is Color Club Twiggie. The pink unicorn is Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream, the purple unicorn is Barry M Berry Ice Cream. The white unicorn is Sinful Colors Snow me White.  The Candy Mountain is Color Club Poptastic, and the black accents are Wet N Wild Black Creme.

Nautical Nail Art!

Today I have for you some Nautical Nail Art! Who doesn't love stripes?

For this design I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White as the base, some red metallic striping tape I got from Ebay, and China Glaze First Mate for the anchor using my dotting tool. 

I think this came out pretty well. :)

Tutorial: Brushstroke Mani

I had a few people ask me to do a tutorial on the BrushStroke mani I posted here.  So here it is! Let's get started.


The tools you need:
a fan nail art brush
a palate for your polish
your base color (i would suggest a light color)
and  3 colors for the accent colors(or more depending what you want to do. :))

Step 1:  Apply base color (shown here is OPI Skull and Glossbones)

 

Step 2: put a few drops on to the palate to pick the paint up on the brush. 

Step 3: Pick up the paint on the brush and disperse it through the brush.  you only need a little bit on the brush to transfer. I kind of brush the paint out away from the dot and smear it out a little on the palate to get away excess. (shown in step 5 photo)



Step 4: apply lightly to the nail in random places, some big some small, apply as much or as little s you want. have fun with it!

Step  5: do the same with the 2nd color, and fill it in a little bit more leaving a little bit of space for your last color.
Here in the background you can see how I smear it away to only get a little on the tip of the brush.  you don't want too much polish on the tips or it will cover the entire nail. (personally I think I used too much blue in this one)

Step 6: Repeat again with the last color filling in any missing gaps.  It is great to overlap colors especially if they are sheer and create new colors!  I did quite a few times.  the point is to just make a piece of art on your nails. So it is your creation, do with it what you please! 

Here is my finished result with Seche Vite Top Coat and cleaned up the colors that got onto my cuticles.
